![]() ![]() The Mark 19 is a fully automatic, belt-fed, blowback-operated, air-cooled, crew-served weapon that is not meant for the cook-off. It is the most recent and widely used Mark 19 type, which was launched in 1976. The MK19 is used by more than 20 different countries and by the US Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines. This is a 40mm belt-fed automatic grenade launcher from the United States. It’s also been adapted for small attack or riverine boats and for a wide range of Navy mounts The versatile weapon can be carried into combat and employed by infantry from a tripod mount or attached to attack vehicles such as HMMWV and armored vehicles such as the Amphibious Assault Vehicle. Devel- opment for this weapon system began in the late 1980s. The MK19 provides lethal fire against a range of targets including dismounted infantry, light armored vehicles, and even hovering helicopters. The MK47 MOD 0 is a 40mm automatic grenade launcher designed as a replacement for the MK19 MOD 3. It can penetrate up to 2 inches of rolled homogeneous armor and has an effective anti-personnel fragmentation radius of 15 meters. The weapon has an effective range against point targets out to 1,500 meters and area targets out to 2,212 meters. ![]() It fires disintegrating link, belt-fed grenades at a cyclic rate of 325 to 375 rounds per minute which translates into a practical rate of fire of 60 rounds per minute (rapid) and 40 rounds per minute (sustained). Originally developed by the United States Navy but used by all the military services, the MK 19 Automatic Grenade Launcher/Machine Gun fires 40mm grenades. The Mk 19 grenade launcher has been a mainstay of American operations since its introduction in the late 1960s during the Vietnam War.
